Orihuela Medieval Market

This year again we step back in time at the fabulous Medieval Market in Orihuela town which takes place on Friday 31st january, Saturday 1st February and Sunday 2nd February.

The celebration takes place on the streets of the town center and the origin of the event goes back to 1272 when king Alfonso X “the wise man” decides to give the population of his kingdom an annual fair where sellers of other regions, artesans and crafters could offer their product often hard to find locally¬† to the people of Orihuela .

In Modern times the market is still going, recreating the era back to its roots making the historic center of the town the ideal place to host this wonderful event where joy and fun are guaranteed with activities for all ages such as music, dance, theatre, role play, parades and workshops of old craft methods, even a tarot reader to tell you what to expect in the future . There is also a free bus leaving from Playa Flamenca town hall stopping at Entre Naranjos and Torremendo in case you dont drive or maybe fancy a few glasses of vino organized by the town hall , well done guys !

And of course I can not forget to mention my favorite part of all : the food

There are so many stalls selling anything from a german hot dog, churros, sweets to a traditional spanish paella or “cochinillo”, you name it: it will there! You can complement it with a nice jug of sangria and enjoy Spain at its best .

Overall it is a great day out for all ages and tastes , very well organized promoting the culture of those days back into modern times.

Until the next time ….. Hasta la vista baby !
